Oral Sex
- Use condoms and water based lubricant
- Get regularly tested for STIs including HIV
- Recognise and act on symptoms of STIs
- When possible, tell my recent sex partners if I have been diagnosed with an STI
- Get vaccinated for hepatitis A & B
What's involved in a sexual health check-up?
As part of a thorough check-up, ask for a:
- Blood test to check for HIV, syphilis, hepatitis A and B
- Urine test, anal and throat swab to check for chlamydia and gonorrhoea
- Physical examination to check for signs of other STIs like crabs, scabies, warts and herpes
- Referral, counselling, advice and support
Many GPs and clinics now offer patients the option of providing a self-collected urine
sample and anal swab. If you have symptoms, you may be offered different tests.
Check-ups are free at Sexual Health Clinics. You can remain anonymous.
